I recently left my job after being a temp for a yr. I learned alot but felt I wasn't able to grow. It wasn't a music company but it was a big italian company where I learned sales etc.

I am very musically inclined and feel that I belong at a record label. I am not gettin any luck on this site whatsoever. Is there any advice on how to et companies to notice my potential?

I don't want to sit home. I feel like a lazy bum and that I am not. I tried everything. Posted my resume on different sites, faxed my resume, e-mailed my resume.
WHAT CAN I DO?

I've been in the business for 3 yrs and can tell you that it is most definately who you know. I've been and am still in the same boat as you are. I currently work for a publishing company and a few of our writers have had experiences with known artists/writers that they are struggling just as I am. Only advice I can give is what I keep living myself, keep trying cause there is an entry somewhere to where you want to be, you just have to find it.

who you know is a great way to break the ice.

but it's what you know that makes you seem competent or not.

they have a way of getting the frauds out of the system quickly.

"give'em enough rope. if they know their stuff they will hang on tight. if they are fakin it... they will hang themselves"

Yes. And as far as sending your resume through sites like these or via mail is a total waste of time. These sites are good for identifying available label jobs. The next step is to use your connections to reach out to someone who works at the label or can connect you to the person in the HR dept that is handling the hiring for that position.

As one member mentioned; "What you know" is essential...but a major mistake this failing industry is constantly partaking in deals with the lack of seeking individuals who have thirst and true creative ambitions to get the jobs done. The proof is 'absolutely-in-the-pudding' as this industry strives to keep consumer's interest as the digital age of media trends continue to change the way the Business of Music and Entertainment survive.

They seem to have no clue that the individuals who are "hungry" (for lack of better words) and given opportunity--are the ones who largely produce greater attributes of commitment and loyalty to their organizations...whereas in many situations those who have the so-called credentials have displayed their hidden agendas to get ahead by using these organizations for stepping stones to attain contacts and connections within the business to move their personal careers forward rather than the company.

It's dog-eat-dog, shady at best and possibly the main reason why it is spiraling to its inevitable end. Music WILL and CAN never die, however the businesses that rape and misuse it...WILL (as they all do!)

If the hassle of trying to get notice by these companies is wearing on your spirit...then my advice would be to utilize your skills by constructing a business proposal, and start your own organization via investor(s). Companies use such methods to stay afloat themselves when they are in the same position you are in, and use their attained success (or not) to lure someone with money to believe in them and their possibilities...that looks better on paper and spreadsheets than through verbal expressions.

Just believe in yourself, don't try so hard, take advantage of sitting at home by strengthening your skills (as if you were actually working for a company of your desire...because sometimes simulation and going through the motion helps you align yourself with the universe and what you want...sound silly, but what do you have to lose? Appreciate your time!!!)

Thank you! I am going to use my time by writing more songs and since my dad has a mini recording studio, I may just annoy him to program some of my new songs. You can check out the song I wrote on his myspace : www.myspace.com/angelovenuto
It is called AND I. I am so happy for the responses. I will not give up and I will get out there and try and meet some more people.
If any one has any more advice feel free to share !

It usually is at a record label. They hire interns and it is difficult to get into those positions. Being attractive and female doesn't hurt...most of the Hollywood A.R. interns I met were both. Being about as nice as possible and educated is also helpful.

Persistence and the ability to find every label and talk to some one there at that record industry business couldn't hurt.

If all of your songs are in teh somewhat electronica-dance vein, may I suggest attending the Winter Music Conference? It happens in Miami in mid-late March. There are all kinds of seminars & useful contacts.

Just a thought. Oh, and if you ever need a pick-up bassist in Chicago, I would be honored to perform with you.
