Now that I've registered, how do I complete and edit my online resume?
Locate the "My Profile" tab in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Upon clicking that tab you will be directed to your Music Jobs profile where you can begin building your online resume; in addition to uploading a Word doc or PDF version of your resume, photos, videos, and MP3s.
Once on your main profile page, your Primary Resume tab is located in the center of the screen. On the right hand side of your primary resume, and subsequent resumes if you choose to make them, is a green button entitled "Edit Resume" on the right hand side. After clicking on "Edit Resume" an accordion menu of selections will appear; which include resume settings, files uploaded, contact information, and resume details.
Select "Resume Details"
The sections within resume details that you can edit/update will also appear in an accordion style menu.Your progress bar, which is on the right hand side of your main profile page, will keep you up to date on your current progress in completing your Music Jobs online resume. Below the Progress Bar, is the link: "How do I improve my resume." Click this link for tips on how to improve your resume, and reminders of empty sections within your resume.
Click here for more details on the sections to complete within your online resume.
Keep in mind, that resumes listed in our Resume Database are listed in order of those most recently updated. We no longer have the "Instant Update" button, but every time you log into Music Jobs, and every 3 minutes thereafter that you stay on the website, your Music Jobs resume is automatically put at the top of the search results in the Resume Database (for premium members only). This ensures that when employers search the Resume Database, yours will be at or near the top of the list.
How does the application process work?
As you click to "contact" a company, you are taken to the application page where you are asked to type a cover letter. This is your first introduction to the employer, and you should always put your best foot forward by creating a customized and professional cover letter.
After finishing your cover letter you'll select your Music Jobs online resume that you would like to direct to the employer and then preview your application. Upon clicking submit, your cover letter and a link to your specified Music Jobs online resume is sent directly to the employer. Again, this is why it is essential to include a professional cover letter. As employers click on the link to view your Music Jobs online resume, they can also view your uploaded files: your Word doc or PDF version of your resume, MP3s, photos, and videos.
How do the emails work?
You receive an email alert every time a job is posted that fits your selected criteria (job type and location). In the email alert is a link to the job posting, which you can use to apply directly to the job. Your application for each job includes a direct link to your Music Jobs online resume that the employer can access, as well as any of your uploaded files. You will also receive a weekly email entitled 'Here's Looking at You, Kid!' letting you know whenever an employer has viewed your resume. It is important that your email address is correctly entered and remains up to date, as it is our primary means of contacting you.
Application and Statistics:
On your profile, in the column on the right hand side, are the Statistics and Applications tabs. Within "Statistics" you can see all Music Jobs employers and members who have viewed your online resume and the files that you have uploaded to your profile. The applications section shows you all of the past applications you've made - your cover letter and the job posting details.Where do you get your job vacancies?
We scour the internet to bring you all kinds of quality music industry jobs; job vacancies are also posted by the employers themselves. Registered members can apply for these jobs either by responding to the email alert, or by scanning the jobs board and clicking "contact the employer." Lastly, it is worth noting that while the jobs board is very popular and proving to be a great success, often positions are also filled by employers using the resume database to find people.
Can I apply to any job I like?
While we understand your desire to have your resume viewed by as many employers as possible, we do request that you only apply for positions which match your qualifications and experience. For instance, when a job says "3 years experience in executive music licensing required," this should read as off-limits to an intern. We ask you follow this simple rule so that employers receive the applicants they are looking for, and therefore will continue to use the Music Jobs site and posting quality jobs for members such as yourself.
What is the Forum?
This is where you can network with a growing community of music professionals, either by putting up a notice, joining in one of the ongoing discussions, or just having a browse.
How can I link people directly to my Music Jobs resume?
