Cheyenne Symphony

Orchestra / Ensemble

about

Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is a professional orchestra serving the city of Cheyenne and southeast Wyoming. With its roots in a volunteer organization called the Cheyenne Little Symphony over 50 years ago, the CSO became a professional orchestra in 1981. Currently, the CSO has over 110 musicians that travel from the Colorado Front Range and throughout Wyoming to perform during the concert season. These musicians are paid as employees of the CSO and reflect a high level of talent and musical capability.

Each season the CSO offers a five-concert subscription season in the Cheyenne Civic Center (capacity of 1,496) and a Pops concert to attract younger audiences. The CSO also presents a series of Hausmusik concerts held in Cheyenne homes or smaller venues and an intensive educational outreach program to Laramie County School District #1 & #2. Each season over 1,500 adults and students attend our performances and over 5,000 students are involved in our education programs.

The mission statement of CSO is "to provide musical enjoyment, growth and cultural outreach to the people of Cheyenne and southeastern Wyoming who might not otherwise have ever had the opportunity to experience a professional symphony; and to act as a catalyst for other educational and cultural events so as to improve the quality of life for residents of Cheyenne and the surrounding area."

The music of the CSO significantly contributes to the cultural experience, education, moral and spiritual development of all people in Cheyenne as well as being a significant factor in the economic development of our area. The CSO, a 501(c)(3) organization, has been able to accomplish these programs because of the generous support of our audience, the community of Cheyenne and public-minded businesses, and corporate grants.

The Cheyenne Symphony is truly a labor of love for its volunteers. Labor for concert production, fundraising and a variety of tasks are garnered from the active participation of the CSO Board of Directors and 150 volunteers in the CSO Friends of the Symphony.
