I have over thirteen years of international experience as a contracted soloist, freelance musician, tourist liaison, and mixed ensemble player for private festivals, riverboat and luxury cruises, corporate hotels, independent resorts and non-profit organizations. My creative sense of awareness in my surroundings are second only to my people skills. Given the proper faith and guidance, my performing experience grants an ability to engage any audience and adapt to any environment. I offer my services as someone who will work hard to make your program or ensemble a successful one, as a person capable of connecting to anyone, and as a versatile musician who feels blessed for any platform granting the moment to push, promote, and share in this universal language.

My musical journey across four continents has helped me to become a people person in every sense of the word. Regardless of the opportunity I encounter, I always approach it with an open mind. I am independently motivated to succeed and I take great pride in my work. I can promise you nothing short of leaving a great and lasting memory for the people around me regardless of what country they might happen to call home. During most of the five years that I spent performing throughout Europe, I was living with a German family; this helped me to gain a competent handle on conversational German. I am not quite fluent in the language, but I could confidently and easily handle myself in a room of the people and determine the topic of their conversation or address any issues and concerns. Moreover, I have always been fortunate in finding a way to communicate with people even when I couldn’t decipher their native tongue; applying the horn as a tool for conversation was especially outspoken during my contract work in Asia as a strolling trumpeter for a riverboat dixie-band and my contribution to an all-volunteer international music festival in Northern Africa bringing the arts into the hearts of communities that had little to no platform for expressing and adopting their inner creativity. In my blessed endeavors, I have come to find that if you simply show people a little respect and cultural awareness, both children and adults alike, you can find a way to explore their character. Of course, it never hurts to be able to make them laugh.

I'm a lot of things, but one thing I'm not is a lead player. In the past, whether in high-school or during my short stint in the service as a trumpeter for the Army Band, when my colleagues could be found working on their range, I could be found softening my tone. When their practice rituals called for the advancing and bettering of their technical skills, I had already began to embrace the idea of adding candid improv to any form of music. If you are looking for a lead player, you won't find him here. If you're looking for someone who can add a melodic line to a song that "needs something different," or who can put trumpet into a place where it wouldn't normally exist…hello. Nice to meet you. I don't read changes, I use my ear. Nowadays, I guess that makes me old-school.

I understand the good fortune I have with this life and I have always done whatever it takes to maintain its longevity. I’ve come to realize that money isn’t everything. Sure, it helps “to pay rent” and “to eat” and “to survive,” but there are things that should be placed on a higher level of priority, such as opening yourself up to the idea of taking a job for where it takes you and not how much it pays you. I have arranged my own transportation to exotic locations on both sides of the water and I have had my travel paid for in full, but it is not the amenities contributed that guide my decisions. I have made a ridiculous amount of money for performing and I have made next to nothing or barely enough to break even, but it is not the profits therein that reflect my professional choices. I have shared the spotlight in stadium-seating and spoke from the shadows of the stage to a party of two, but it is not the public recognition that I seek. It is the opportunity itself that I look towards. It is the breath of fresh air that comes with doing what I love to do while connecting to strangers. It is being in a place where the foreign outweighs the familiar. It is having the chance to explore another culture and discover the minute similarities that we share. It is knowing exactly what I am capable of and ensuring that I never put myself in a situation that might prove to be beyond my means. This is what moves me and this is what draws on my inspiration. Frankly, you would be hard-pressed to find a person that is more humble in their approach to life and the opportunities that present themselves.

The trumpet is my outlet to express who I am and my vehicle to connect with people. It has allowed me to share moments in life with countless souls from infinite backgrounds. It is a part of my defining character, a character that has a great sense of humor and who loves to entertain. I would wager that I am one of the most understanding and tolerant people you will ever meet. I believe in having a solid work ethic and holding the desire to create a positive atmosphere. It is the adventures I have had and the experiences I have lived that have given birth to this characteristic, but the validity of these claims can only be proven by getting to know me, and therein, you will know what I know.

I know how it feels to walk barefoot across the ancient sands laying beneath the pyramids of Giza, as the spiritual winds whip across the Sphinx before traversing across my face. I know how the air smells on a clear and crisp Christmas afternoon in Berlin, as the scent of fresh-baked bread and hot-spiced wine permeate my surroundings. I know of a song floating from generation to generation in certain regions of Japan that if I were to sing it to a grouping of prideful citizens from the age of forty to eighty, it would cause their eyes to fill with tears as their lips softly mouthed the words; I know how to sing this song. I know the intense feeling of awesome isolation that comes with being alone on a desolate Alaskan highway adjacent to the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains of the Yukon, with nothing but the cry of the caribou and the swimming Northern Lights to keep you company in God’s backyard. I know how the sun rising against the Grand Canyon births an array of purple, pink, and blue tints cascading down the clay faces of the weathered Arizona craters. I know the location of a line of graves housed on the outskirts of a Bosnian suburb, with those fallen souls marked by a line of bullet-holes scattered across a crumbling wall. I know the exact spot in the French city of Arles where Van Gogh began to lose his mind just before losing his ear. I have let my horn sing from a terrace in Tangier as its echo faded just before the call to prayer sounded around me. I know that if you take the bullet-train to Hiroshima with means to become enlightened at the sight of the “A-Dome,” you must first decide whether or not to partake in a creamy latté as there is a Starbucks just to the left of this humble monument.

I know that the trumpet is responsible for my witnessing these few sights and experiences referenced, the countless episodes that were left out, and those that are to come in the next adventure. To me, music isn’t just a way of life, it’s my life-partner, and I can’t imagine life without her. I look forward to continuing the path of making a tangible creative connection to the environment around me as a member of your ensemble or vision.
