The Oakland position is full time general music and band. All other positions are part time. All positions begin with training in August 2009. Applicants should meet most, if not all of the criteria listed in the following descriptions and possess a strong passion for bringing quality music education to diverse student populations.
A Teaching Artist will meet the following criteria: Bachelor of Arts Degree or an Advanced Degree in Music/Music Education or the Fine Arts Strong organizational and communication skills Experience in preparing for various concerts Has reliable transportation to teaching location Experience working with middle school aged students highly desirable Experience working with general music and choral classes preferred For the Oakland position, knowledge of Catholic liturgy desirable Knowledge of Orff and Kodaly methods desirable, willingness to train for them within the program necessary. Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills Willingness to connect music instruction to other subjects in school curriculum through learning about and implementing our curriculum model. After School program teaching artists should have a Bachelors or Advanced Degree in their discipline or significant performance and teaching experience in that discipline. Teaching experience for band directors needs to include planning rehearsals and concerts, instruction on woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments, an ability to teach beginning elementary students with little music reading experience, and the ability to coordinate with school principals and music teaching artists for performances and follow through on student attendance. |
