About the job

We are seeking a Music Department Coordinator.

Under the supervision of the Conductor of Music Programs (CMP), the Music Department Coordinator (MDC) is responsible for supporting general department administration and management, program development and oversight, events and project management and community relations.

The MDC works closely with the CMP in facilitating management for all music department staff, instructors, and volunteers; assigning duties and responsibilities to support staff as necessary; ensuring program efficiency; assisting in interagency and external communications and collaborations; and assuming instrumental or ensemble instruction and performances as necessary.

This position will also provide administrative support to the Music Department including but not limited to:
-Semester schedules
-Staff and instructor assignments and coordination, student assessments,
-Attendance reports, correspondence and other student performance administration.
-Support logistics and coordination for music department performances and events on and off-campus
-Manage coordination of students for events and performances
-Oversee support staff and volunteers for special events and serve as primary chaperone as necessary
-Compose and prepare regular and special reports as required
-Maintain database of student records and private instructors
- Assist the CMP in the placement of student enrollment in ongoing semester classes
-Communicate with performers and technical crews regarding rehearsals and production schedules and logistics
-Monitor student progress and maintain communication with parents regarding class performance, GPA, and attendance
-Provide work direction and guidance to contractors, volunteers, mentors, interns and support staff as assigned
-Responsible for equipment and supplies acquisition, classroom access, safety and equipment set-up, and scheduling instrument maintenance
-Assist the CMP in semester evaluations
-Assist in the development and management of daily and accelerated music classes
-Work closely with the CMP to maintain weekly, monthly and quarterly calendar of music activities
-Submit appropriate paperwork and reports in a timely and efficient manner
-Oversee weekend programming

Education/Training/Experience
-Music Degree or proof of equivalent training in related field preferred
-Strong background in music theory required
-Knowledge of and experience in performing a variety of musical genres including Classical, Jazz, Rock, R&B necessary
-Knowledge of one or more instruments including voice, piano, guitar, bass and/or drums extremely helpful
-Teaching experience helpful but not mandatory
-Experience working with youth in a fast paced urban setting
-Physical and Mental Demands
-Able to work in dynamic, high noise level environment typical of a youth center
-Walking, standing for several hours per day
-Lift up to 30 pounds regularly
-Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity sufficient for standard face to face and telephone communications
-Able to prepare detailed reports and conduct evaluations
-Must be willing to work flexible schedule and weekends for events
-Must work well with diverse populations of employees and clients
-Music Department classes are Monday through Saturday, some weekends and evenings activities, with some local travel as circumstances require
-Valid Drivers License EEO/Background screening required
