Job Description:
Our legal team seeks an experienced lawyer to serve as its Legal Director advising the company on entertainment, music, publishing and other media related legal issues, managing its licensing and commercial transactions, and helping to implement its business and legal strategies. This attorney will work closely with the legal team of Yahoo! Entertainment on transactions that impact the media properties of our company and with our Local and Listings properties.
Job Responsibilities:
- Your principal duties will involve negotiating and drafting sophisticated licenses, promotions, and distribution arrangements with content and technology partners. You will be responsible for ensuring that our company secures rights adequate to support its consumer businesses on the Internet.
- Managing and working with others on the team, you will help to oversee legal aspects of our products and web sites, including drafting end user licenses and terms of service, reviewing proposed marketing materials and press releases, and assuring consistency with our policies and practices.
- As an attorney at our company and a member of the legal department Transactions and Business Counseling Team, you will work closely with other members of the legal department, bringing in additional expertise as needed.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- JD degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Active member of State Bar
- 8-10 years of licensing experience at a prominent law firm, online or entertainment company or equivalent organization
- Experience in structuring, negotiating and drafting complex content licensing, technology licensing and commercial agreements
- Current knowledge of the entertainment, media and internet industries and the laws the govern them
- Familiarity with a broad range of corporate legal issues affecting our business such as intellectual property and litigation
- Superior written and oral communication skills, including experience dealing with business executives and with clients
- Excellent strategic, organizational, presentation and process skills with the ability to follow through on numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
- Ability to work well independently, coupled with strong interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, and an ability to participate in a highly collaborative team environment
Preferable Job Qualifications:
- Strong background in copyright and trademark is a plus
- In addition to knowledge relevant laws governing entertainment, media and internet industries, publishing experience is a plus
- Flexibility, a sense of humor, and commitment to professionalism and collegiality
