About the job
POSITION: Full-time teaching intern in Performing Arts for the 2010-2011 academic year.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities will include: direct 6th Grade Chorus, including a musical theatre performance experience; co-teach 8th grade Intro To Theatre; assist with 7th & 8th Grade Chorus, including a Broadway musical; assist with Upper School theatre performances, including a Broadway musical; and, as time permits, direct a Middle School play and introduce theatrical experiences to Lower School students.
QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre or comparable, with strong emphasis in both theatre and voice. Acting, directing, and stage management experience is a principle part of this candidate’s skill set, as working with students in these areas is anticipated. Training and/or experience in choral conducting is an important subsidiary component of the candidate’s portfolio. Candidates who have also maintained an interest and/or expertise in some area of instrumental music will be given strongest consideration, but all interested graduates are encouraged to apply. Neither prior teaching experience nor certification is required, but the candidate should have a strong desire to work with students at all levels K-12, and should be enthusiastic about the possibility of entering the teaching profession in the performing arts.
The position offers the unique opportunity to begin a teaching career in a beautiful and well-equipped environment that nurtures academic and artistic excellence, to be mentored by nationally recognized performers and artists, and to live and work within an hour of New York City. This is a one-year position with the expectation of renewal for the following year.
Inquiries regarding the position are welcomed. Candidates may email for more information.
The application package should include a letter of application describing the candidate’s experience, a resume, a brief statement of artistic or career intent, contact information for three academic and/or artistic references, and the college transcript. Applications should be sent to the address noted.
