About the job
We are looking for a new vocalist. Auditions happening throughout Spring.
The group is an all-female band that plays "roots music of the African diaspora" - an upbeat mix of original music that reconnects Haitian mizik rasin, Jamaican roots reggae, Afro-Brazilian samba, Afro-Cuban son, and African American spirituals, blues, jazz and neo soul.
We are a professional award-winning band. We are looking for someone with either professional experience, or with a determined energy to be a strong vocalist. You will need to interact with the audience, dance on stage, and play a little easy percussion. We have 2 "lead" vocalists: our band leader/percussionist who sings and does spoken word, and YOU! The other band members also sing background parts.
We play many shows (almost every weekend), travel, and rehearse twice a week. This is a big time commitment yet very rewarding. We have paying gigs and work with an agent for festivals, colleges and more.
We have performed and opened for: Zap Mama, Emeline Michel, State Radio, Queen Omega (reggae singer from Trinidad - more shows coming up with her!), Queen Ifrica, Boukman Eksperyans, and more!
Please check out the website to find out more and hear some music.
And PLEASE include any links to your website or send a recording of your singing (doesnt have to be a professional recording). This will help us to reply to you sooner if we are interested! If you dont have a website or any recordings thats ok, but let us know about your experience and why you are interested in auditioning. Our only requirement is that you be 21 or over.
Thanks!!
