POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Audience Engagement is responsible for advancing institutional efforts to achieve
one of the major goals of the Symphony’s Strategic Plan: “We lead the nation's
orchestras in energizing current and engaging new audiences.” Through funding from the Foundation, the Director of Audience Engagement will be responsible for artistic projects
that enhance concert content and will create ancillary activities to maximize audience engagement.
The Director of Audience Engagement is a member of the Artistic and Operations team and reports
to the VP of Artistic and Orchestra Operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work as a member of the artistic planning team with Music Director, President, and VP of
Artistic and Orchestra Operations, representing the viewpoint of audience members and
what would serve to engage them more fully
• Research and introduce concepts for artistic content, festivals, exhibits, repertoire, and
projects which would lead to more energized audiences
• Create interesting and fruitful artistic partnerships with local and international institutions
which can offer a new and different perspective on classical music
• Organize and facilitate inter-departmental cooperation and idea generation that address
innovative practices around audience engagement
• Support the development of web content that advances patron appreciation and
understanding of the art form
• Conceptualize and design concert concepts with multi-disciplinary elements and with a high
degree of relevancy to the unique characteristics of the Orange County community
• Assist in the creation and implementation of the long-range plan as related to artistic
development
• In coordination with the marketing team, assist in the collection and analysis of data as a part
of the Wolf-Brown studies and work to integrate what is learned into the fabric of Pacific
Symphony programming
• In coordination with others, develop feedback channels for our audiences to better
communicate their artistic needs and preferences
• Conceptualize, propose and implement new entry points into the programming of Pacific
Symphony for a wide variety of patrons

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a passion for and thorough knowledge of the orchestral repertoire
• Charismatic leader with a drive to exceed ambitious goals
• Bachelors degree required
• Highly collaborative with an ability to work across organizational lines
• Proficient knowledge of several art disciplines in order to facilitate collaborations among arts
organizations
• Desire to bring classical music audiences to a new level of engagement and interest
• Must be a curious person and willing to explore ideas that seem “out of the box”
• Experience with marketing classical music events
• Ability to handle diverse, demanding, and varying workload
• Must be able to articulate ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing
