Department: Music - 225
Position Summary: The Concert Manager will carry out the 115-year-old mission of the University Concerts Committee in presenting an annual series of concerts performed by artists of the first rank to the larger community. This will be achieved by exercising broad day-to-day executive responsibility within the guidelines established by the Committee.
In addition, the Concert Manager will present student, faculty and professional artists in concerts under the auspices of the Department of Music.
This is a university staff position and reports to the Chair of the Department of Music with an advisory connection to the Chair of the PUCC, typically a non-university employee. The Concert Manager will oversee a small staff (2-3) including a Concert Accounts Manager.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of initiating and executing series concerts of broad scope and appeal, both responding to and providing leadership for the PUCC Program Subcommittee in its deliberations.
The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of Classical music of all eras, especially chamber music, as well as some familiarity with jazz and world musics. Additionally, the candidate should be thoroughly familiar with the conventions of musical reference, as well as professional and scholarly reference tools.
The candidate must be familiar with the current musical scene nation-and worldwide, and experienced in working with artists and artist's managements in negotiating and executing contracts. The Concert Manager will be the primary host to artists visiting campus for performances.
Skills:
The candidate must possess excellent writing and editing skills, as the position is responsible for creating all written materials relating to the series: newspaper ads, promotional brochures and mailers, press releases, up to date web presence, printed programs and fliers.
The successful candidate will be thoroughly computer literate, including not only word-processing and spreadsheets, but graphic (Photoshop) and professional publishing (InDesign) applications among others. Familiarity with modern computer-assisted printing procedures is desirable.
Publicity and Marketing:
Proven experience in building and extending an established audience will be a strong qualification for this position.
The successful candidate will be experienced in traditional publicity and marketing techniques including newspaper, advertising and editorial, promotional mailing, radio, website and social media (facebook, twitter etc.).
Financial Management:
Working closely with the Concert Accounts Manager the candidate will have broad responsibility for carrying out fiscal policies established by the Committee, as well as providing timely and detailed reports to the Committee to assist in ongoing review.
