If you create music, then we invites you to apply for a Composer Fellowship. We offer four $25,000 recognition awards to mid-career Minnesota composers. These unrestricted fellowship funds may be supplemented with an optional project grant for Fellows to pursue a community-based project of their own design. Creators of original music are sought whose work shows consistent quality, extraordinary accomplishment, and outstanding potential in any musical genre (jazz, ambient, international, classical, ethnic, experimental, performance art, elec- tronic, sound art...).
Application Deadline: Saturday, March 20, 2010 (postmark)
Who May Apply
• Composers who have been residents of Minnesota for the past 12 months.
• Composers working in any style are urged to apply.
• You need not be a member of the ACF to apply, but are required to join to be granted a Fellowship. For further information about joining, please visit us online.
Who May Not Apply
• Composers who have received a Composer Fellowship in the past three years (2007, 2008, 2009).
• You may not apply to more than one Fellowship discipline per year.
• Students who have not yet completed their course work (ABD), ACF staff or board members.
How to Apply
Send the following:
• A resumé or bio (two pages maximum).
• A one-page statement about the development of your work, aesthetic position, and how you might use
the fellowship.
• A maximum of three clearly-labeled recordings (CD or DVD) of works you have composed in the
last three years:
o It is preferred that you put all 3 work samples with separate track IDs on a single disc.
o Track #1 should begin with a 4-minute sample of your most characteristic and compelling music.
o Excerpts or a section of a longer work are acceptable. This may be followed by a complete work.
• A one page work-sample description (e.g., title, date of composition, performers).
• A maximum of 3 scores, preferably matching the works on the recordings, marked with the dates of composition.
o Written scores are required unless they are inappropriate to your compositional style.
o For improvised performances, please describe the nature of your involvement as the com-
poser.
• Optional:
o A check (to “ACF”; no stamps or SASEs please) to cover return postage of your application
materials. Entries without return postage checks will be recycled.
Selection Process
• The Composer Fellows will be selected by a three-member panel chosen for their familiar- ity with diverse genres of new music.
• The selected composers will be notified in May, 2010.
