Music Jobs Paylist: One-Hit Wonders
Friday, March 23rd, 2012Enjoy some of modern music’s greatest legacies.
A one-hit wonder is “a person or act known mainly for only a single success“. The term can vary between artists who only released one single, or who only had one single chart in the US, r sometimes, who had more than one chart success, but their legacy is built around one song only.
Prime examples here are Vanilla Ice or Billy Ray Cyrus. Ice’s biggest hit was closely followed up with a #4 Billboard charter. Cyrus went on to release a staggering twelve studio albums and forty-four singles since his 1992 smash… but I bet you only think of one song when those names are mentioned, twenty-something years later.
And so, we decided to explore some of music’s most loved and hated one-hit wonders and pick some of our favorites. From culture-related martial arts fads, to dance crazes, to the spearhead which brought line-dancing to a global audience…. enjoy!
(note: this is loosely based on US charts, so there are some international artists who had great success in their own country, as well as others who had additional underground or radio successes. Please disagree or discuss discrepancies in the comments.)
