Tips For Success

computer

We here at US Music Jobs wanted to give you some simple tips on getting the most out of Music Jobs and your job search.

1. Be Proactive
That includes searching the jobs board on a regular basis, and not solely relying on the job alerts.

2. Use the Resources You’ve Been Provided With
For example, clicking on the “instant update” button often, puts you at the top of the list as employers search our resume database.

3. Proofread Carefully
Review your details and make sure that you don’t have spelling or grammatical errors.

4. Write an Original Cover Letter… and yes one should be submitted with every application
Tailor each cover letter specifically for each job. If you can’t take the time to do that for an employer, why should they be interested in you?

5. Complete Your Music Jobs Profile and Online Resume
If you’ve only uploaded a Word document of your resume, when an employer links back to your page – there won’t be any additional information. Check out the progress bar for hints.

6. Apply to Jobs That You’re Qualified For
You may not be getting the responses you’re looking for. Make sure that when you apply for a job that you fit the criteria.

Log into your account now and take the next step in getting noticed!

Best wishes,

The Music Jobs Team.

The ‘Tribute’

Simpsons screen shot

Recently there have been quite a few animated “tributes,” per se, of pop stars and some of their hit tunes, and some re-worked versions.

Billboard has called attention to a few, which included Ke$ha’s song “TiK ToK” on the Simpsons, and Kanye’s face off on The Cleveland Show. Also, will.i.am was given a not-so-flattering tribute on the season premiere of The Boondocks. The episode focused on all the celebrity hype surrounding President Barack Obama’s election back in 2008, and it featured a music video with a cartoon likeness of Black Eyed Peas front-man. The song took the beat of “It’s a New Day,” which will.i.am released after Obama was elected President, and added surprisingly catchy (yet, NSFW) lyrics.”

On the Sunday night episode of The Simpsons the song “TiK ToK” has the entire cast appearing throughout the song for the opening credits, obviously replacing the regular theme. The song is sung by Ke$ha throughout, with various characters ‘lip synching’ along to it. It’s extremely entertaining and crazy all at the same time. I’m sure it caught all of the viewers’ attention as it did mine – it was definitely an unexpected yet cool twist. It’s amazing to see all the different ways pop culture keeps ebbing into our lives in different facets.

After the Simpsons came The Cleveland Show. In the episode Cleveland Jr. takes on Kanye West, after supposedly hitting on Kanye’s girl. (more…)

Lala Bites The Dust

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

So, it seems that Apple spent a ton of money on Lala only to close it down 5 months later.

This past weekend, Lala users received a notification email and this notice was posted on the music streaming website. Current users will be able to use the service until May 31st, after which any credits or balances will be transferred to the iTunes store. They also announce to Lala members that “In appreciation of your support, you will receive a credit in the amount of your Lala web song purchases for use on Apple’s iTunes Store.” This will also be the last chance to hear our Music Jobs Lala playlist, ‘Rockin into 2010‘, so go check it out now.

I have no doubt that Apple will use some of the Lala technology to create an iTunes streaming service – music ‘in the cloud’ is where it’s at these days. While no official announcement has been made from Apple in this respect, reports and predictions have been flying around since the buyout, and the computer/music giant have their finger on the pulse enough to recognise the trends that have occurred in recent times.

It is a shame that another quality streaming service has to go (Imeem shut their doors after the Myspace acquisition), but hopefully there will be something good come of all this, rather than the usual bullish business moves and subsequent dumbing down of a great service.

Lee Jarvis.
